Psychologist: the absence of personal boundaries indicates an unsuitable partner. Many experts claim that achieving ideal relationships from scratch is very difficult — they require work. But sometimes it happens that it seems like no conversations or therapy can restore trust and comfort. The psychologist explained the red flags by which you can recognize unpromising relationships.

Sometimes, incompatible people enter into relationships, and then it’s difficult to arrange things so that all the rough edges are smoothed out. The specialist listed the main signs that will indicate whether it’s time to end this story or if it’s still worth fighting for.

Signs of an incompatible partner:

  1. Communication. Communication with a partner should not be difficult; otherwise, even the simplest issues will be challenging to resolve.
  2. Respect. Respect for the partner’s opinions, goals, and interests is essential in a relationship. It indicates equality and forms the basis for trust.
  3. Support. A partner should rejoice in the couple’s successes and provide support during challenging times.
  4. Shared goals and values. When partners share common goals and values, it’s easier to reach agreements and navigate life together. Without this agreement, significant arguments and conflicts may arise.
  5. Personal space. A partner should respect the couple’s freedom and avoid controlling behavior.
  6. Conflict resolution. Disputes in relationships should be resolved without shouting, personal attacks, or insults. If the situation escalates, it’s a red flag.
  7. Trust. Harmonious relationships are free from doubts and suspicions.
  8. Emotional well-being. Interaction with a partner should primarily bring joy and happiness, not anxiety, irritation, or stress.
  9. Mutual responsibility. Both partners should equally take responsibility for the relationship, their behavior, and problem-solving. If one person shoulders all the responsibility, they will eventually become overwhelmed.
  10. Physical and emotional intimacy. The absence of intimacy may indicate shallow relationships.
  11. Personal growth. A partner should inspire achievements and improvements; if it’s the opposite, it’s a reason for concern.
  12. Intuition. Ignoring your inner voice is unwise; if it suspects something, it’s best to carefully examine the cause of the concern.
